Tuesday's 3 STAR Free Play:

Oakland Athletics/Kansas City Royals UNDER 6.5 -- Regardless of which team you like in this game, the smart money is on the under. Jon Lester has been lights out for Oakland and Shields should be amped up pitching at home for the Royals who haven't been to the postseason since 1985.

Both pitchers have ample postseason experience -- 17 games started between tonight's pitchers. Look for Lester to give up no more than 2 runs and Shields to yield 3 at the most. If both pitchers can make it through 6 innings, each team possesses outstanding relief options (Wade Davis, Luke Gregorson, Sean Doolittle, Greg Holland, etc.) who can definitely keep this game under a total of 7 runs. 

Monday's Plays

Sunday we hit a 3-team parlay (Green Bay, Detroit under, and Tampa Bay), but outside of that, it was a pretty lackluster day. Philly played a great 1st half, but folded late and we lost with Philly +4.5. Some places did have Philly as +5, so a few may have pushed with that play. The Pittsburgh/Tampa Bay under looked great and would have resulted in a parlay win (Tampa Bay +7.5 plus the under in that game) but the Buccaneers mounted a pretty incredible drive and scored the game-winning touchdown with just 7 seconds remaining.

Thursday's Plays

Thursday's 3 STAR FREE play: 

New York Giants +3.5 -- I don't normally pay much attention to trends, but the Giants have won 14 of their last 20 vs. Washington. Eli should play with a little more confidence coming off a nice win last week against a tough Texans' defense. In a division game, take the points.

Well... it would have been great to kick things off with a win, but unfortunately, this happened: 

"It took all of 32 seconds for the Jets to Jet on Monday night... Geno Smith failed at a screen pass attempt, and the Bears' Ryan Mundy returned the errant throw 45 yards for a touchdown. The pick 6 proved to be a pivotal play in Chicago's 27-19 victory at the Meadowlands."

Despite the quick 7 points, the pace of play really slowed in the 2nd half. The Jets struggled in the red zone and we missed hitting the under (45) by 2 points (27+19=46 total points.)

A few years ago, I made my handicapping debut with beatingyourbookie.blogspot.com. I had just started to craft my system, but I did fairly well: the site featured 3 and 4 star plays and the 4 star plays ended up with a record of 33-24-1 and we won our biggest play of the year on the Super Bowl.

I will say that in my experience picking against the spread, I have had the most success with college football, but last year I did really well with my NBA plays. Off to a good start this year with the NFL, so I thought I'd try and share the wealth.

Unlike a lot of other sites, I will post the most current lines and totals, typically using the lines from Covers.com.
